Lumika, creating wonder The way that we see the world is determined by the beliefs we have about it. Through the exploration of light refraction and color, in a set of hanging rotating dichroic sculptures amidst the darkness, Lumika invites the user to explore and observe the feeling of wonder as a mean to spark a seed of awe and contentment. Challenging the materialistic and mechanistic perspectives in post-modern digital Western cities by softening the rigid structures of numbing, inviting meaningful connection and awareness. Generate wonder and gratitude to be alive right now in this world. Remind people that life is beautiful, encouraging them to feel the expansion in their chest.
There was a time when the world was cloaked in shades of grey for me, a time when I could not feel the wonder and connection to life. Every day felt like a monotonous march, devoid of the vibrant hues that once colored my existence. I begged for even a fleeting moment of joy, a chance to feel that connection to the beauty of life, to feel that spark of gratitude that reminded me how amazing it is to be alive. For months, I felt like an observer of my own life, distanced from its emotions and experiences. I realized then how vital that moment of connection is, not just for me, but for everyone. Some people live their whole lives without experiencing that moment, and I resolved to recreate it for others. I want to give them a chance to pause amidst the noise, chaos, and uncertainty, to break through the pain and numbness, and feel, for an instant, an expansion in their chest that takes their breath away. That moment of awe, that reminder that there is color beyond the grey. That brief second reconnects us to the joy of being alive.
